Tour des Aspen 2008 - Our 20th Year!
September 25-28
From Aspen, Colorado to historic Crested Butte
through some of the most beautiful Aspen groves in the world. This three night/four day
tour combines road biking and mountain biking with luxury hotels and fishing camps. It is
a great combination everything Colorado has to offer. |
DAY 1:
There is nothing as spectacular as the changing of the
aspens in Colorado. We will drive to the top of Independence Pass where we will let you
off to ride down into Aspen (19 miles). We'll regroup at the Jerome Hotel and continue on
to the Red Stone Inn for a little hot tubbing and a delicious dinner.
DAY
2:
We will head up McClure Pass. This is one of the most
beautiful passes in Colorado. The paved road winds gradually up to the summit of 9,000
feet. We will be surrounded by large golden aspens and the clear skies of Colorado.
Once on top of McClure pass, we'll descend for twenty miles until we reach the turn off for Kebler Pass. We'll have lunch by a creek and then head up the hill to the summit. This afternoon ride take us thru the largest aspen groves in the world. Because Aspen trees are all connected in the ground it is called the largest living organism in the world. Once at the top of the pass the last eight miles are all downhill into Crested Butte. After getting organized at our hotel we'll spend the evening strolling the streets of Crested Butte and enjoying some of their famous food. 58 miles
DAY 3:
After breakfast we'll head back toward Kebler Pass to the Ohio Creek turn off. the ride down
Ohio creek is like being in an enchanted forest. The trees engulf us as we look at the snow covered peaks surrounding us. At the bottom of the pass we'll load everyone up and drive to Taylor
reservoir for lunch along the water. From here we'll bike into the old mining town of Tip Cup and from here we'll bike Tin Cup Pass into St. Elmo, another turn of the century mining town. Our final destination from St Elmos is
to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs/Cottonwood Hot Springs. After a long soak in their famous springs we'll have dinner in the lodge....the end to a wonderful day of biking. 45 miles
DAY 4:
For those with any energy left we'll head off and bike parts of the Monarch Trail.
For those who have had enough biking more soaking could be in order. We'll depart for Colorado Springs between three and four and arriving back in town around
